Change fluid and filter, adjust bands. See if that helps.

As for what to do with it, depends on your budget.

What HeyYou said, but if you have the budget: PATC Mega Viper FTW.

If the band adjustment and fluid/filter change get you going, install a remote ATF filter to keep the friction material from circulating and worse, sticking and plugging passages. That, and keep it out of overdrive unless you're on flat highway at cruising speed. Never load the engine while in overdrive.

^ +1 how is the fluid? must check while running in NEUTRAL......does it smell burnt? is it dirty? up to lvl? and best bet is a rebuild....check out MonteC's transmission thread in the FAQ, you'll find what you need there

i removed abt a quart of fliud (thru dipstick tube) added lucas conditioner, and some lucas stopslip.....the fluid coming out was incredibly dark and thick....didn't smell burnt tho, i believe sum1 already added something like the stop slip before me.....i considered changing the fluid and filter but was told once that the clutch material in the fluid may actually help the trans, so replacing with new fluid may increase the slippage and in turn shorten the life span of the trans, unless of course the 100k + mile filter is just clogged?? not familiar enuff to tighten bands, but with instruction would attempt it.....ne ideas on where to find a procees or tourque spec for the band

shouldnt be thick....atf4 is a synthetic fluid......sounds like your fluid has broken down......do a filter/fluid change and see if it helps.......DONT get it flushed, thats when it can hurt the trans......just drop tranny pan and change filter...add a drainplug while its out...and be sure to add ATF4 ONLY.....will take about 5-6 quarts to refill......

get that lucas OUT OF THERE. If the fluid is NOT RED, then your fluid is BAD. Adding tranny conditioner is BAD BAD BAD.

Drain it, change the filter, adjuct the bands, and refill.

The dealership only charges $120 for a tranny service (Drain/refill, adjust bands, change filter.)

But since the fluid is dark, I would be willing to bet that your Torque converter is causing the problems.

Follow what Unregistered user said about overdrive.

change the fluid!!!! and filter!!!! and the govenor pressure sensor an dsolenoid while you are there! adjust the bands. all is simple. sounds terrible but once you start it it is simple really!

NEVER ADD NOTHING TO THE TRANNY FLUID. ONLY ATF-4!!! NOTHING!! EVER!!!
