9.25 rear axle rebuild
#12
Ok.. I have read and I have a question.. Since I go my differential parts back in a box. The question I have is.. How do I determine how many shims I need on the pinion to get started? I read where they talk about + or - painted on the end of the pinion. However I dont see those on my new pinion.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Find the "Macro" setting on you camera...
I believe how the pinion depth markings is something like this. Every axle has a "master" pinion depth and pinions will be marked how far in or out from that "master" measurement they need to be. You can measure this with the proper tool and dial calipers or with some ingenuity. The measurement is from the carrier bearing center-line to the pinion face. Or you can just play around with shims and marking compound till you get it right.
