if the gears are visibly worn they should be replaced if they are in good serviceable condition then reuse them .

Ok.. I have read and I have a question.. Since I go my differential parts back in a box. The question I have is.. How do I determine how many shims I need on the pinion to get started? I read where they talk about “+” or “-“ painted on the end of the pinion. However I don’t see those on my new pinion.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

With out that info you are going to have to start blind, use the old shims to start with and go from there. Might be a good idea to get a couple of spare crush sleeves.

They would probably be the ones to contact for what the various markings mean. One of them is going to be pinion depth..... which one is going to be extremely important. heaven only knows about the others....... probably production codes and such.

Find the "Macro" setting on you camera...

I believe how the pinion depth markings is something like this. Every axle has a "master" pinion depth and pinions will be marked how far in or out from that "master" measurement they need to be. You can measure this with the proper tool and dial calipers or with some ingenuity. The measurement is from the carrier bearing center-line to the pinion face. Or you can just play around with shims and marking compound till you get it right.

I think a call to the manufacture sounds good.. Who makes Genuine Gear? I tried searching for the contact info with no luck.

Thank you!

I can find LOTS of places that sell them...... I cannot find ANY information on the manufacturer though...... Might call some place that sells them, and ask.
