just a transmission related question
a friend of mine warned me about my trans going out and said one of the signs would be that if i shifted into reverse i would hear a whining noise and a delay in power and difficulty shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear.
i have the delay going into reverse, however i assumed it was because of my bald completely worn out bias ply swampers developing flat spots other wise i have no noticed issues shifting gears or anythign else transmission related aside from a small fluid leak by the radiator, but thats just a hose in need of some minor adjusting
and i read on here a few weeks ago about some check valve, but i cant remember what i was supposed to do with it, replace it remove it blow it up etc etc

A slight delay going into gear when the truck has been sitting for a bit is normal. When the trans is in park, the pump does NOT send fluid to the torque converter, so, if it has sat for a while, and emptied out...... when you put the truck in gear, first thing that needs to happen before the truck will move is, it needs to fill back up. (and this is also why checking your fluid in park gives you an inaccurate reading.) If it does it ALL the time, you might have something to worry about.
Try putting the truck in neutral for a bit before trying to move it when it has been sitting for a while. See if that helps.
Check valve is in the trans cooler line running TO the radiator, right up near the radiator. Just have a look at the steel lines there, if it is still in there, you will see it.
You want to remove that valve. It tends to clog up, and restrict, or, stop, flow thru the cooler. Trans overheats...... and smokes itself. Bad scene. Very expensive.
