Hey guys are our 4x4 truck supposed to have an indicator light when the 4wd is engaged?

yes its is the far left light in the row of lights UNDER the instrument cluster.

if its not working, its more than likely a vac problem, but could be a faulty indicator light sensor. ensure that there is 17" of vac at the red line at the CAD in 2wd and 17" at the black line in 4wd

 

yes depending on what year your truck is decides its location newer 2ndgens are on the cluster and old ones are below it to the left. if yours isnt coming on it could be. 1. the cad isnt working properly due to bad actuator, a vaccum leak the switch on top of the tcase is not transfering vaccum to the actuator. 2. the bulb is blown or the switch on the cad is bad or the wires goin to the switch are broken some where.

 

If the vacuum line is the problem how do you fix that? Im going to look at it today cause it just got warm enough to do stuff out side.

 

First you have to determine if it's the plastic line or the steel line. Or another vacuum problem. Does your heat and CC work properly?

 

Find the leak, and repair it. If it is a bad switch on the t-case/actuator on the CAD, replace them.

The system draws vacuum from the bag o' snakes at the passenger side rear of the intake manifold. Source line goes down to the switch on the t-case, and two lines go from the switch, to the actuator on the cad housing on the front axle. Fourth line on the t/c switch is a vent line. should go up somewhere nice and high.

Easiest way to check for vacuum is pull the connector at the CAD, and start the engine. Should be vacuum at the OUTBOARD port on the connector. Shift the t/c into 4wd, and vacuum should be applied to the other port. If you aren't getting any vacuum to either side, check the vacuum source, if it simply doesn't switch, chances are the switch on the t/c is bad. If it works as it should..... test the switch in the CAD. (it just unscrews, then press in the plunger, and the lite in the dash should come on.) If the switch is good, pull the cad housing off, and have a look inside.

 

You do mean Cruise Control when you say CC? If so then yes it works correctly. Heat only works when its 45-50 or higher outside, anything colder and it just gets luke warm.

 

Do your vents work as they should?

 

When im driving and the engine is not under load such as when im maintaining speed and i have it blowing out the floor vents they work correctly but whenever it goes under load such as passing someone or going up hill they automatically blow out the defrost vens no matter what vent you had them set to blow out.
