Default Tire size question for towing

Hey Guys, quick question.

I have been searching on this site and Google for the last hour or so, but getting conflicting info.

Heres the background

I have a 5.9 with 3.92 gears running 33's.
I have a travel trailer which weighs in around 6500lbs when loaded.
Tows no problem, only time I really notice it behind me is going up the big hills in the mountains. I always take my time and drive about 90-95 kmh (55mph) but slow to 80ish (50ish mph) on the big hills. I never really try and push the truck too hard.

The tires I have are in great shape and fairly new (toyos)

would I see any improvement in performance going back to 31's? only time I really wish I had a bit more power/torque is the big steep hills.

This is not a fuel savings concern, as the return in savings to offset the cost of new tires will take years. (just a FYI i get about 11-12 mpg towing the trailer)

Thoughts?

TIA!

The cost of buying a new set of tires is about the same as re-gearing your truck to 4.56 gears, so its a toss up to you.

You will probably not feel much of a difference in performance if you switched the tires, but I guarantee that you will feel a difference if you re-gear your truck.

Oh, I'd like to see a pic of your camper! Here is my dad's:

Good thinking Purp, Didn't even think of going down that road. might have to do some research on that. Maybe i can find a set of gears from a wrecker.

Good luck, all I can say is finding a set of 4.56s in a wrecker will be hard. Unless a past owner has swapped them out, you wont find any. Plus you'll have to count the gear teeth on every truck!

Here's some pics. Don't have too many yet as I just got it at the end of the season last year. Only made it out 5-6 times with it so far.

How much do you think a new set of gears would run?

you can get a set of gears, front and rear, with install kits for a hair over 500 off of ebay, supposedly reasonably good gears as well. Installation is what hurts..... anywhere from another 600, and up.......

If you take your time, read a few manuals, you could probably do it. I'm thinking about DIY'n myself.

The wife and kids can stay with you.
