Looking for the best lift for a 99 Ram 4x4?
As far as "kits" go, KORE or Carli are going to be your best choice. For bang for buck and performance, you need to talk to an offroad fabricator. And by fabricator I mean real, fabricator. Not bolton installers like ORW.
Im thinking of getting the fabtech 5.5 in kit on the site hammerz71 posted but for a 1500. Does anybody have any thoughts about it? It says it requires some welding is that good or bad? Sorry to take away from this guys original post just wondering.
Fabtech = ****. Simply put.
Hammer Z71,
Thanks man that looks like a winner dose your buddy still have the truck? If not did he have any issues with the lift? How do you mount the bracket for the long arms to the frame? Did you have to drill the frame? Did he wheel his allot and if so did it allow for some good articulation? Thanks to you and everybody for their help!

It was over ten years ago and I honestly can't remember. I don't recall drilling the frame but we may have. I'd say if you are interested in this kit, call and ask. I think we had to get the Mig out to weld two brackets on though.
He sold the truck sometime around '05 after blowing the engine. Yeah, unlike me, this guy is a pretty hard core mudder and off-road nut. Also, like me, he just about lives off-road hunting and fishing. Spent many a day with this guy hog hunting the south Georgia swamps when I lived in south Georgia full time.
Never seen the KORE first-hand btw, but it has a very strong reputation. It better for what it costs...
I don't agree with a good many of your posts. I think at times you come off as just slightly opinionated and a lot of your off-road racing philosophies don't cross over to the slow crawling, rock and thick mud driving while hog hunting in the southeast swamps and hauling/working around farm property I grew up doing.
But in this case, I couldn't agree with you more. Their 3rd Gen IFS kits are the worst designed suspension lifts I've ever seen. Guys regularly break CVs because they increase the angles too severely, even with moderate size tires. Plus their 6" kits are misrepresented IMO, since they only lift the front end of a truck 4.5" and rely on you to crank the torsion bar keys up (another CV axle no-no) to get the rest of the lift.
Another reason to stay the hell away is the their parent company (also the parent of Superlift) is in bankruptcy. Operating under federal protection from their creditors. I'd be leery of purchasing any product that I may need repair parts for in the future from a company who may not be around then...
check out top gun customs they are/have come out with a kit for the 2500's that is supposed to be one of the best riding kits to date. If not on their site might want to give them a call, and the 1500 kits should be soon to follow
so would the fabtech kits be ok for a 2nd gen truck? It seems pretty good from looking at it? Alot of topgun stuff is rough country suspension from what Iv looked at. everybody I know with a rough country suspension rides really rough I don't know why though.
