Therein lies the rub, young friend. He's got every legal right to sue the pants off of the clowns who rodded his truck, but his employer has every legal right to fire him in order to restore harmony to the work environment. Which is to say that your exercise of your legal rights does not preclude the exercise by others of their legal rights.

you have to pull the intake to get to the lifters, i been there twice now

i got mopar lifter for around 100bucks and shipping

you can also take the lifters apart and clean them, there isnt and hole alot to them

lifters in the courter and i alittle bit harder to get out(but that was me) they all hit the head gaskets when they are getting pulled out,,, but they will come out with out doing any thing to the head gaskets

This is correct and, in order to even get them started to come out, it's by accessing them via the lifter valley. There's no way to extract them via a top-down method.

Is it worthwhile to try and rebuild lifters?

As I understand it, there is just a check ball, a spring, and some rubber seats in our lifters. The most common failure modes being debris in the oil passage (preventing oil flow), or deposits on the ball bearing (preventing sealing to the seats, and causing bleed down).

Do you need parts to rebuild a lifter (like new seats and ball bearing), or do you just soak everything carb cleaner or something?

When I replaced mine (had one noisy lifter, that wasn't pumping oil), I replaced all of them with new lifters becuase I didn't want to have to pull the intake manifold again.

Anyone just rebuild and reinstall with any success?

I have never bothered with rebuilding them. Mainly because most of the mechanics I talked to that tried it.... failed miserably..... Replacement is guaranteed to solve lifter problems. That is good enough reason for me.

In the early 1960's I saw a guy disassemble all his lifters and put all the parts in one bucket to clean.
Needless to when he got it back together the hemi clattered like hell!
He probably would have been OK if he had kept each one separated but after his screw up he brought a set of lifters.

Damn, Drew. This stinks. I am sure that "The Corps" will take care of their own this time, and they can spring for the parts (some/all). Then they know that they will not mess around the next time they do some work.

It will all work out. The Military is like a Fraternity. You flog eachother, but you also get along. Right now you just feel like the guy who passed out first at the party and someone taped a maxi pad over your mouth and put panties over your head.
