Lifters don't bend they collapse, Push rods bend. In ether case you'll find it when taking the intake off....good luck

 

they must really liked that sound of the airgap .

 

collapsed lifter replaced.. It was the second one from the front- drivers side.. What is that? Intake or Exhaust?

It took me a little bit to figure out how to identify a bad lifter- duh- when I got the thing in my hand and inspected it, it was obvious..

I effin' hate this next bit: I only did eight.. the entire 'odd' bank.. This geographical oddity I live in only had eight within two weeks of here..

I looked the dude straight in the eye and said "I don't want FOP, goddamnit, I'm a Dapper Dan man!".. He had no clue what I meant by that. I left it at that.

yup.. clatter is gone.. she's strong again.. it took a few minutes for the new lifters to fill and stop their chatter- but they did, and it's smooth.

 

ah man your good, wish i could go in and do mine . but after the airgap im not doing it till i have money too pay someone too do it

Also glad to know that they all pumped up nicely. I've been stung by bad lifters right out of the box before. I've been testing them before installation ever since.

What type of motor oil are you running- it wouldn't happen to be synthetic now would it? The reason I'm asking this is, fully synthetic oils suck are known to induce lifter collapse on hydraulic lifters such as the ones used in these engines.

yessir.. full synthetic.. and have been for quite some time.. and, I just replaced it yesterday with yet more full synthetic..

I'm going to make good use of dead dinosaurs after the next change.. I'm of the opinion that it really doesn't matter whether you run syn or not- as long as you change the stuff.. I ran a '93 Silverado 350, 331k miles and never once used synthetic.. I did, however, change the oil on that rig every 3k miles, and only once went to 4k.. When it met it's governmental offered demise, it was still running great- looked like hell, but running as strong as ever.

It seems to me, after you said that, that the straw just broke the camels back.. Other than keeping an engine cleaner, there really is no advantage to running syns in a daily driver I'm thinking... If you change oil when you are supposed to, even that isn't an advantage.
