Thumbs up No fast idle engine lite on

Hi I have a 1995 dodge ram and my first problem is changing my rusted out plugs. I can't even get my socket in to get at the plugs. Can I cut off the shields. Any suggestions????

Next is my check engine lite is on and I have no Fast Idle on cold start. How do I turn the idle up??

Idle is controlled by the PCM via the IAC motor on the back of the throttle body. Chances are, your IAC has failed, or, the passages are clogged with junk. Have a look, and see what ya think.

You can remove the heat shields from the spark plugs, they just pull off of there, just not easily. If you have compressed air available, you could probably blow out most of the junk, so you can get a socket in there.

Go to advance auto or wherever and get the codes read. Or you can try this and count the flashes, https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...code-list.html

yank the heat shield tubes and throw them away.
DO blow out all the crap from around the plugs before removing them or it all falls into the cylinders. DO spray them with pb-blaster for a couple of days if they are rusted in. try not to break them...

as Hey said, remove IAC from the back of the throttle body and inspect the pintle and the hole in the center of the well. if dirty, clean it out. if not dirty, replace it.

Did you reset the PCM after you changed the sensors?
