Engine Bogs Past Half Throttle

Engine Bogs Past Half Throttle
Hello all!
New here and have been searching the forum but nothing shows up with my problem. My son has a 96 Ram 1500 2WD 5.9 Auto.
Seems to drive fine and no CEL. When you push the throttle much past half way it just bogs and loses power. If you let up just a tiny bit it runs fine. Does this in any gear and is relative to throttle position, anything past about half throttle and will lose all power.
Checked fuel pressure and it was about 52psi.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks, Jeff

My son brought his truck by with a new TPS, $60+
It had been a week since I drove it and it was a quick drive thinking it was fuel pressure. So I told him lets go drive it again before we replace the sensor.
Well my old brain ain't what it used to be. It falls on it's face when you floor it. Let up just a little and it will run again but feels low on power. I first thought today that it felt like weak valve springs, but it will rev up if you don't floor it. Could this still be the TPS? Has new wires and plugs within the last 3 months.
Would not mind changing a $20 part but when he brought this I had to think twice. Is there a way to check the TPS?
Thanks, I appreciate the warm welcome!

If it's not the TPS, I'd be looking toward the catalytic converter as Ugly1 suggests. A quick check is to remove the pre-cat oxygen sensor and take a spin. If the problem clears up excessive back pressure is indicated and it's time to get that cat replaced (or gutted, if you're of a mind to do so and can get away with it) ASAP because a plugged cat cascades into cracked heads pretty quickly.

Yes, could be, but it's too late in the day to open that can of worms.
I would like to rule out or confirm bad TPS first. Like I said if the TPS was $20 I would slap it on but $60+ I would kinda like to cnfirm it's bad. He's fresh out of College so money is tight for him. Plus I won't learn anything if I can't use my little tools and gadgets.
He has his Dodge Caliber to run around in so he's not a foot.
Thanks, Jeff
