Default Trouble shifting after pulling out

Hi, recently my 2000 Dodge Ram Sport (5.9L; Automatic) has started "slipping" from 1st to 2nd gear. This only happens when you pull out from a dead stop. It sounds like it is shifting twice to get into that 2nd gear. The transmission fluid has a slight burnt smell to it.

Anyone know what could be causing this?

How many miles on the truck? When was the last time the trans was serviced?

Might not be a bad idea to do a fluid/filter change, and adjust up the bands then.

Along with other advice you received, adjust front band, and look for a sludgy goo in bottom of pan...This goo will find its way into the governor pressure solenoid and create very erratic shifting concerns....If trans is reasonably clean, I would recommend changing the governor solenoid and the sensor located on valve body....they are notorious for failure....

Mine was doing that, and about a week later I had to take it in because the reverse band was gone. I am not sure if they did anything with it but I assume since it was out they did a fluid/filter change and clean the whole thing out. Havn't had trouble since.

If you take care of it right quick, it might be fairly easy and painless. If you let it go too long, it will prolly get rather expensive.

No matter how little it is it can turn bad. The quicker you get it checked out the better off you are. When mine started slipping in reverse I should have taken it in right away, but I didn't and eventually I had no reverse, good thing my driveway is on a steep hill so I could just roll back out.
