i bought the plenum kit from hughes a few months ago and the fel-pro intake gasket set from advanced, and the both had the exact same silicon gasket! i have a spare now, but needed the rest of the gasket set to complete the job.

I didn't like the looks of the paper thin belly pan gasket. Bought a roll of 1/16" thick gasket material and made my own. Laid down a thin layer of high temp red RTV on the intake and the aluminum belly pan with the gasket in between and torqued it down. While I was changing out my TB about 2 months ago, I took a peek inside the intake manifold and after 8 years it's still dry as a bone inside.

Can someone tell me when they installed the gaskets for the plenum fix...where you put just gasket and where there is silicon or another type of sealant is needed... I am not sure where to put what..

Some folks have used a thin layer of RTV (sealer) on both sides of the plenum gasket. This is a relatively recent development though, in the past, it was suggested NOT to use any sealer. I think the trick here is to have an EVEN layer, on both sides of the gasket, so you don't get 'high spots', with will give you trouble when torquing things down. (possible leaks.)

A dab in the four corners where the heads meet the block is another spot.

A thin layer around the water jackets on both sides of the intake gasket may not be a bad plan either.

I only put dabs at the four corners of the intake. I don't have any obvious coolant leaks, but, I do seem to be using more oil than I think I should. (but, a LOT less that what I was doing......)

How long did it take for you to get the Hughes kit and was it good quality (not scratched up etc)?

I have this task coming up as well. As I'm researching old threads about this I was getting concern of finding negative comments about APS & Hughes. One takes forever and the other with concern of quality. ARGH!

Can someone provide some recent updates on their orders and quality?

I just spoke with APS and he said his kits are in stock and ready to go for 158 shipped and would have by Monday since I'm in Phoenix.

My Hughes Kit was in perfect condition. Got it 2 days after I put in the order. I did end up using the Hughes gasket set. Since it's a metal core gasket it won't bulge out like the other one did. That and the fact that the new bolts are shorter and will stay torqued.

my new plenum plate was a bit scuffed and scratched up when i recieved it, bit it wasnt on the gasket surface, when i do the install i will be taking my angle die grinder and using a light disc to clean the gasket edge up a bit just to be safe.
