Default anyone put 5.2 cam in 5.9?

ok my question is i have a 97 5.9 i was told i cant put a bigger cam in my truck since i put in 1.7s roller rockers.. so does this mean if i got a 5.2 cam or slightly bigger one i couldnt put it in due to wut he said was valve clearance??? i know the 5.9 has .410 and the 5.2 has .430.. i was thinking on trying and getting a 5.2 cam and putting it in for alittle extra ummph.. a few more ponys. also the 1.7s work in the 5.2 engine so it should work right??

you can use any size cam in you truck and use your rockers you have now, they will just grind the cam to work

im not looking for anything big bit id like alittle more and i think its dumb that the v6 and 5.2 have .430 and the 5.9 only has .410 .. if i can get a 5.2 cam real cheap then id consider doing it.. cam lift 460 max is the biggest id go but if i get a 5.2 cam i wont have to change anything else

Id say get a new cam instead of a used 5.2 cam, If your going that far in there already might as well as getting some good. If you have high miles look into replacing the components that deal with a cam like springs etc

It isn't just what the cam comes out of that is the issue here. You are limited in the amount of lift your heads will handle. That said.... folks with the 5.2 also use the 1.7 rockers, so, it shouldn't be an issue...... But, if you are going to go to all that effort, why not get a NEW cam, with better specs than a stocker??? Same amount of work either way..... but, a better net effect if you pick the right cam.

When you order your new cam just tell them you have 1.7 rockers and they can custum grind it so it keeps the same specs as with stock rockers

I wish I would have know about the 5.2L cam being more aggressive when I did my motor swap. I could have popped the 5.2L cam in for free and it would have been really easy. Both motors were sitting on stands next to each other.

What if you went with something like this.

Also not to jack your thread but I am going to cam my 5.2 with this cam

But I have been doing lots of research on this and read something about the centerline of a cam. What does the centerline mean?
