Default starts out in second after valve body removal

Hi All:
This is probably covered somewhere but my searching skills are lacking tonight.
I changed the tranny fluid, filter, Governor Pressure Transducer, Internal Harness , Overdrive & Lock-Up Solenoid Set.
Got everything back together and took it for a test drive.
It manually shifts into 1 2 3 and overdrive and such no problem.
But now when I start, or floor it, it will not downshift to first gear. (every other gear is okay)
I hope it is a cable or linkage adjustment somewhere but I cant find a how to or anything covering it.
Help??

trans is in limp mode. Recheck the governor pressure sensor, and solenoid.

Did it have that problem before you did this work? You don't need to remove the VB to change any of those parts, so you may have lost or broke a spring .

NO LOW GEAR (MOVES
IN 2ND OR 3RD GEAR
ONLY)
1. Governor Circuit Electrical Fault. 1. Test with DRBT scan tool and repair as
required.
2. Valve Body Malfunction. 2. Remove, clean and inspect. Look for
sticking 1-2 shift valve, 2-3 shift valve,
governor plug or broken springs.
3. Front Servo Piston Cocked in
Bore.
3. Inspect servo and repair as required.
4. Front Band Linkage Malfunction 4. Inspect linkage and look for bind in
linkage.

AAHHH!!!! Really?
What do I check? They are brand new? That they are plugged in?
OMG I do not want to pull the valve body again.

the problem it had was that it would not upshift if I had it floored.
Do I get a cel if the tranny is in limp mode?
I did nothing to the valve body other than remove it, which I guess I did not need to?? Who new.
I did not loose anything that I know of, my floor area is clean, and I checked thourghly.
I don't have a drbt scan tool.
This really blows.

I'm no tranny expert so if something got screwed up with the VB I can't help. All I can say is check thing's out like HeyYou stated. Got any codes ? And add all the info about your truck to your sig.

Did you have the rooster comb in the correct position when you shoved the VB back up there?

There is a key trick to get the codes, but, it doesn't work on 98's. That's why I asked you to put info in your sig.

Okay, I am a moron. It is starting out in first. It just feels completly different right now.
I think maybe my trans was more screwed up than I thought. It acts completly different now.
Here is what I noticed so far.
Floor it from stop. Tires squeal, goes up to about 3.5 grand, will not rev higher even if it is floored. Then shifts to another gear, seems like third???? And it shifts without an abrupt feel. Real smooth, almost like it is slipping. Strange.
Now, when I am at 55 mph, floor it. It down shifts so the tack goes up to 3-3.5 grand from 2 grand, then just keeps going until I let up on the throttle.
Before, at highway speed, it would downshift to what I assumed is second gear, and the engine would tack out immediatly without upshifting, unless I let up off the gas, then it would shift normally

One other thing. When I accelerate normally from a stop, it goes to about 3 grand, shifts to another gear, then for a split second, it seems like it downshifts to another gear. Just for a split second. Then it goes back to normal.

Kinda seems like I am not getting second gear now????
And shouldnt the engine go to almost tacked out when I have it floored?
I dunno. I think I will go to a tranny shop tomorrow for their opinion. Maybe it is acting normal now and it was completly fd up before.
i am to wrapped up in it now to make a sane judgement.

I think so. The rooster comb is the part that the stupid clip, that is a real bitch to get back on, is attached to right? It is like a ratchet? With indents that a ball rested in? I did not remove it.
