Default Sound like a T-case problem???

Have posted this before regarding grinding vibration noise on my 01 1500. When I go between 65 and 85 I get a grinding/vibration sound, and when in 4wd it is there all the time, especially when I give it gas to take off and while on the throttle.

When I bought the truck the guy said that it has had the t-case rebuilt in Sept. of 2010 and had a warranty on it. Just talk to the place that did the t-case and they said that they put a used one in it and only had a 30 day warranty.

I got under it today to check the fluids in the cases. All the fluids are full, but I did notice the when I spin(rotate) the front drive shaft that there is a squeaking noise that comes from it. Sounds like it is coming from where the shaft goes into the t-case. Also I noticed that on the rear drive axle that there is about a 1/2" of smooth metal (Like its been sliding in and out a little). Not sure if thats what it is doing or if it is supposed to have some play for travel.

Here are some pictures.

Squeaking is probably u-joints in the driveshaft.

The yoke WILL slide in and out of the T-case as the suspension travels. That is normal.

As for the grinding and such, but the truck up on four jackstands, and run it, see if you can localize where the noise is coming from. (BE CAREFUL!!!)

that has to be done at higher speeds. Not sue if I want to attempt that on jack stands.

There is that. Not without its hazards........

You could try rolling things by hand, and see if you can 'feel' anything....... Something else to look at would be if the snap ring holding the rear output shaft in place in the T-case has gone MIA. Common problem on these trucks.

How would you check for that? I'm wondering if that's the case with my truck. 4wd is quite loud.

Gotta drop the rear shaft, and then pull the tailshaft housing to get a good look.

With just the driveshaft out, see if you can wiggle the output shaft, or, if it has any front to back play. I think the housing only has three or four bolts that hold it on. Another two minutes.......
