Default truck randomly shut off, wont start

I have a '96 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.2 v8 engine. I was driving down the road, everything was good, and it just shut right off. No one can figure out the problem, I searched the web, my mechanic has no ideas, put in a new battery, etc. I have spark, plugs smell like fuel, so I know it's getting fuel. It ran once since I had it towed, but now it won't even fire. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Replace the plugs.... Then, swap the ASD relay with the wiper relay. See if it behaves any better.

+1 on the coil. My coil just quit to. smelled gas cranked and cranked even sputtered off once and ran for a second. smelled gas bad. had another coil in the truck. didn't even bolt it up just plugged it in and put the coil wire on and it fired right up. drove it home about a mile away and bolted it on. checked the codes . It had a pending code for the coil. and it didn't turn on the CEL. I know some hand held code readers only tell you if there is a code when the CEL light is on.

Crankshaft position sensor might be something else to check.
