Well I have been getting a lock-up solenoid code for a year now. The trans shifts good and does not slip it locks up fine also goes into overdrive fine. I am just getting tired of seeing the check engine light on. So I am going to replace it. When I get the money I am going to buy a deep pan, a shift kit and the lock-up solenoid. But what else should I replace while I have the valve body off? Thanks for any help you can give.

 

Sonax Sure Cure kit for the valve body. (basically a shift kit designed specifically for the 4?R? transmissions. You will like it.)

TCC and 4th gear solenoids come as a set. Get new, not reman. Not sure if these should be 'dealer only' parts like cam and crank sensors.

Might consider doing the governor sensor and solenoid too while you are in there.

Does the Sonax Sure Cure kit give you firmer shifts? Is it still ok to tow with it installed?

That kit sure has more than the one I used, damn comes with new check ***** and all. Mine came with four springs a manual valve the boost valve and basically told you to make some new holes in the TB.

I omitted the Big-A$$ spring because I didn't want too rough of a shift, and left the stock one it. It was for the PRESSURE REGULATOR VALVE. Just seemed too heavy duty for me.

Man be careful with those springs, the diagrams don't really show which one is which. Worst case scenarion you leave one out or something, either take pictures or use a different zip-lock for each channel you remove valves or springs from..

 

So the Sure Cure kit is more of a reconditioning kit than a shift kit.

 

It solves a few of the known problems with dodge valve bodies, is indeed a shift improver kit..... and will make you eggs for breakfast in the morning too.

 

I kind of want to buy the sure kit now and redo the VB....

Maybe during the next filter change...

 

Have you ever installed one?Just wondering how much harder and quicker the shifts will be and how hard it was to follow the directions.

 

I don't rebuild transmissions. (yet.....) However, after reading MANY MANY threads about our trannies, and what is suggested, and more importantly by whom.......

MonteC, our one-time resident trans guru, always recommended them. Given he was the acknowledged master of chrysler transmissions, I am following in his footsteps.

He also is NOT the only person I have seen recommending them. (other trans builders as well.)
