Hey guys, i have a 1995 Ram 1500, 3.9L V6 2x4
Anyways i was wondering what i would need to make my truck 4x4, i found this

and was wondering what else i would need, i know i need a 4x4 front axle, but what else?
, and would i have enough power or would i need to upgrade to a v8 (which i would like to anyways someday)

Just buy a 4x4 Ram.
The frames are differnent.
The trans you posted will def not work.

why wouldn't the trans work?

 

That trans is for a HEMI, meaning is a 545RFE.
That one and the 45RFE won't work with our engines and computers.
Besides, you have OBDI, soo....nah.

 

If you have a lot of money and time on your hands to play around with a conversion like that, go for it. Otherwise, it would be cheaper and easier to just trade in for a 4x4 truck.

 

well i have all the time in the world,and i have about 2000 that i can play with maybe another grand over time,if i could buy parts like over time

 

Buy a 4x4, save yourself the money and grief

 

You would need so much that it would be cheaper just to sell your Ram and buy a 4x4.

You would need the differential, all the front end componets, you COULD use your tranny, you will just need to o/d unit from a 4x4 (its a different shape for the diff)

You would need the front axle, need to beef up your suspension.

Change your computer.

Thats just off the top of my head, and I'm sure it isn't half of it...

 

So you have $3k???

Do you think you could get $2k for your truck??

I see you are in Florida, here are some 4x4s for less than $5k...

All newer than your truck, and all extended cabs...

 

Not to mention all the assorted suspension brackets. Does the 2x frame even have the provision for the track bar? There's another bracket you would need.

Possible? Yes. Practical? No. Take your money, and your truck, trade them for a 4x4. Use the extra money to deal with the new trucks issues, and improve it some.
