I would never have a dealership do gear work. I took mine to a local 4x4 shop. They do gears all the time in Jeeps, Yotas, and trucks. He told me they do a set probably twice a week. Compare that to what a dealership probably does, and I can guarantee the off-road shop has way more experience. Both of my gear swaps with them have been perfect - no issues.

Just got a quote from a local 4x4 shop for about 1625 bucks with Yukon gears. Said he could do motive gears for about 80 bucks less. I already have the front carrier and rear diff I want
Btw, this shop has a good rep, even the employees own Dodges. That's a plus.
I'd guess a dealer would do it for twice as much...and probably screw it up.

Modifying? Well, no, but you would still need the pinion gear and proper setup to be done. Its not like a ford 9" or yota axle where they drop out and bolt in to a new axle.

When I Had my 4.10 gear swap done I got the gears from a guy that had a offroad and swapped them for 4.56s I got the rear gears, the front gears, and the front carrier for $150. The guy I had install them did it for $120 a set and he used the carrier that was in my front end because the two were the same.

The factory 4.10 gearset for the 9.25 is over $600, just the parts. I would imagine the Dana 44 is similar.
Your truck is 2000-2001 correct? No adjustment to the speedo is necessary on the later models, there is no gear to read or swap, the speed sensor reads the tone ring from the out put shaft of the trans pre-gear and is not affected. Tires, not gears affect the speedo on the later model rams. On the earlier rams, both tires and gears can effect speedo readings.
