Default jerking in 4wd

hey yall, i need some help.. i have a 99 ram 2500 v10 4x4 and when i put it in 4 low and mash the gas it moves but if i let out it starts jerking. It only does this for about 30 seconds or so but im not sure if its because the hubs are lockin or if it may be caused by low fluid levels in the transfer case. Any help will be appreciated.

What surface are you on when you do that? 4wd and good traction don't go well together.

I wouldn't use 4WD on gravel or dirt. Mud, snow and ice.

it was mainly a test to make sure everything was still working. I hadn't used 4wd since december of 2009.

would the jerking be caused by the gravel or would it be from the hubs not lockin in?

Were you turning? Gravel really shouldn't be a problem.... I use 4wd on the dirt roads around here, as it makes the washboard easier to deal with.

Unless your truck was modified to have them, there are no hubs to lock (at least not in the usual sense of the phrase). That is what the CAD is for.

Then the odd behavior isn't unusual. Even on gravel, my truck will do the 'traction shuffle' if I turn sharp.
