Timing Chain Question
I am currently working on replacing the timing chain and sprockets. On the two sprockets, there are no colored marks to line up. However, there is a drilled out hole on the top one and a mark on the bottom one. I have these lined up as seen in the picture. I just want to make sure they are right before taking them off. Thanks.

Here is another question. I purchased the Cloyes 3 keyway crank sprocket. It came with some instructions, but just wanted to make sure I've got it right. I have posted a picture of the instructions also. As you can see, it says "retarding the cam timing will increase high RPM horsepower, and advancing the cam timing will increase low-end torque." Of course, there is the factor specification. The key on the shaft is square. Does that make any difference? Also, which way will increase mpg? I certainly don't want to lose any. I do mainly hwy. driving, with little in town driving. Hardly no towing, but would not want to hurt the low end in case I did want to tow a couple of 4-wheelers. I want to get this right the first time. Thanks

correct. notice the dimple in your bottom cam sprocket under that big hole you are refering to. its dead on 6 o'clock. check your 12 o'clock cam position, its the only other possibility.
i recommend you install in the stock position. IMO, advancing and retarding timing is asking for trouble.

You mean one of those jaw pullers? I will give it another go and pry around it and see if I can loosen it up.
By the way, how do I display pictures within the body of my message, instead of the little thumbnail images?

lol, the white marks are from a marker, and the clean spots are from brake cleaner.
the sprocket should slide off pretty easy. DO NOT DROP THE KEY down in the oil pan. give it a few mild taps with a hammer, it should free up.
for pictures, upload them to a hosting site like photobucket or something, then post the IMG code here (or use the yellow mountain which wraps the picture link around the http link to the picture. either way, it ends up looking like this, without the spacing...

I'm putting the new timing chain and sprockets on right now. In the step by step guide on pavementsucks.com it says that the big bolt on the camshaft is on at 135 ft. lbs. However, the chilton manual I have says to torque it at 50 ft. lbs. Which one is right? Also, what is the torque spec. for the top sprocket?
