Recently, I have been on the hunt for a new set of wheels for my truck. I have looked all over but have not been able to find something in my budget. A buddy of mine, who works for a powder coating company, offered to powder coat my rims for me which would cost a fraction of what a new set of wheels would. I plan on painting the rims gloss black. I was just wondering if any of you guys have painted your STOCK rims and how the results looked. I have tried to find images of dodge rams with painted stock rims but have had no luck in what im looking for so.... If you have any pictures PLEASE post them! I am particularly looking for stock rims that are painted black but any pictures will suffice.

I haven't logged in for a while, so I didn't see your question until tonight.

Back in early '08, I had my stock steel rims powdercoated black. I really like the look:



I think I did a fairly good job on the prep work:



And the shop did a decent job:



But after 4 winters of mag chloride / salt spray on the roads, the rims are still showing some rust. But I definitely still like the that style of rim. I haven't seen more than a couple other rigs in my area running anything similar.

 

not sure what wheels u have but here are 2 diffetent styles on my rig.

This is before and after using Plasti-dip coating. For only like 7 dollars a can this stuff lasts a long time. I Have chrome rims on right now but the black ones are still in the garage.

 

My sig not a great pic but on my center caps i painted the ram logo red and black.
Looks better not that i got better tires

What size are your tires? Are they 295's or 305's?

 

No, they are 255/85-R16 Cooper Discovery ST's. Or at least, they were, because the picture is a bit old. I'm running 285's now, but only because the shop couldn't get the 255's quick enough that I normally run. I tend to prefer a taller skinny tire for up here in North Idaho.

 

The only thing I don't like about having mine painted is when I get the tire taken off the rim, I have to do some repainting. It takes a while to tape everything off, but it can be done.
