Not to mention that you don't HAVE to have the winch in EITHER receiver, until you actually need it. Less impact on approach/departure angles that way.....

I keep looking for a too-good-to-be-true deal on a winch so I can do this. I have the receiver hitch for the front in my garage, but haven't gotten any further then that. It's been a few years and I am still looking for a winch. True I could just go buy a new one, but I have a hard time justifying the price considering how often I might actually use one. Ask me again though sometime when I am in a situation where I need to use one, and my opinion on that might be completely different.

I've had the Warn M9000 that's in the Jeep now for a little over 6 years. The XD9000i that is currently on my truck I got when it was 1 year old, unused and swapped a case of .223 ammo (about $275 value) for it, straight up.

Lot of Chinese made winches on the market that are quite inexpensive. The Harbor Freight and Smittybuilts get decent reviews and run about $299 for 8k and $399 for 10k. I dunno if the longevity is anywhere near what a Warn is. My pop still runs the Warn 8274 he bought used in the early '80s when I was in junior high. But the Chinese ones ain't $1000 either...

I had a great source for solenoids real cheap at one point. Maybe on my old laptop. I'll have to see if I can find it...

thanks. i think i might also know of a great place to get some cheap solenoids. find a few old fords at the local junk yard and grab the starter solenoids. they are usually mounted on the fender under the hood and easy to take off and the guy at the local junk yard will sell them to me at a reasonable price. plus i think the winch still has 1 good solenoid which is all you really need to use it, just have all 4 is more convenient.

the prices for solenoids are not bad but the shipping is a bit too high for me. it would cost a bit over $100 for 4 solenoids and i think i could get 4 at the junk yard for about $50 or less.

Ive also seen something that warn offers. Its called the Transformer. It turns into a grille guard and has a winch. Idk if they make em for our generation but Im gonna do some research into it since I just saw it in a off-road magazine Ive been reading.
