Default 231 d to a 231 j

ok so here goes i have a 98 dodge ram 1500 5.9 4x4 it is a work horse does the job of any 3/4 ford are chevy everyday and after 179k it decide that the tcase was done was driving it everyday while grinding and still working lol i searched around for a week and the price were from 1200 to 650 found one at a junk yard from a wrecked 2001 with 64k miles they told me that the j didnt mean anything got home snatched out my old one tore it aprt to see what all was wrong (whole diffrent story ) then realized that the j input shaft to the tranny was about 5/8 of a inch to long to bolt up so my question after all this is do they make a spacer plate to adapt are can i just brake out he old die grinder and go to town for a couple hours cutting it thank you for looking

Check spline counts too. (input and output) Also, I think the J case is clocked differently than the D.

so i found out that they are the same splines and on a jeep forum i found out that the jeep nuts are useind these tcase to replace thier crappy jeep parts it took about 20 min to cut the shaft i cut 11/16 of a inch of even know on the jeep forums 5/8 was all that is need but oh well it is in and bolted up so i will do a post later in the week to let ya know how it goes
