Actually I don't believe this is true, at least for some models. There was a post on here about that, and someone said that this isn't always the case. I do know that you can jump the wiring harness to see if it works that way.
I have the same problem.

I'll have to check that out the next time I start mine. I thought the 4x4 light came on with all the others, but then again, I've never paid much attention to it.

Default Trans

I have a 99 ram 1500 reg. cab long bed. It has the 318 in it with 4 wheel drive. My automatic trans has no second gear. It shifts from 1st to 3rd. I am going to be replacing it with a junk yard trans but was wondering what model years will fit and plug in with no problums. Also wondering if a trans from a durango will fit and work proper as well. Just so I know what to look for in a junk yard. Only reason going to junk is that I dont have the money for a profesional rebuild nor have the knowledge to rebuild myself. I can change trans myself.

You might want to start a new post with this question, I believe what you are doing is dubbed "thread-jacking". Also it may be worth it to search the forum, I'm sure you can find out what transmission is in your truck that way.

Getting one out of a 99 would be the safest bet, durango/dakota trans would work as well, so long as they had a V-8.

96 to 99 will work from a Ram. I don't know about the Durango.

I'm like 95% sure that isn't under your hood. I'm also pretty sure that's an aftermarket alarm system.
