No 96 is obd2 but there is a couple sensors that are a little different, pretty sure motor related ones are on the intake.

Should be fine if you find a different sensor, use the one off your truck

What about flexplates do I need a new one or will the one off my 5.2 work.
You are pulling the motor out of something right? Just leave the flex plate on it.

96 and 97, maybe even a little 1998, were crossover years for OBD I ---> OBD II. They had a mixture of OBD I and OBD II parts/sensors/whatever. 1998 or 1999 was the first true 100% OBD II year for these trucks, hence why so many PCM programmers state 1998 or 1999 as the first year they will work with.

Just got back in town, so Im gonna try to go take a look at it. I think it was an OBD-II. If I do get it I am gonna give it a good rebuild before I put it in. I think it still have the original flexplate but no transmission so I dont know what all they took.
