Default trans relearn?

Hi guys, i know there is a crapload of trans stuff on here but i cant find how to get the trans to relearn. I finnaly cooked my trans at 159,000 miles, Had it professionally rebuilt with some mild upgrades, tq, kevlar clutches and bands, all new electronics, new valve body, front pump, planitaries, ext. basicaly total new trans. We put the trans in the truck and it drives good except for the shifting, It has a good 1-2 shift, hangs in in 2nd too long so im not happy with the 2-3 shift, and i have yet to get it to shift into OD, PPl have told me it might need to relearn. I just dont know, any advice would help, thanks

Take it back to your rebuilder, let him know the problems you are experiencing, and see what he has to say.

There is no 'relearn' period for the trans. It either works right, or.... it doesn't. No overdrive till engine temp is up a bit though.....

Probably just something wrong in the valve body..

I would definetly take it back to him, but it could be a sticking solenoid (he should have used new) or a spring in the wrong place(not enough tension).
If your not slipping and gears are engaging then the internals are probably good, it should be an easy diagnose and fix for a repair shop.

When I rebuilt mine, it wouldn't shift at all. I was devastated...
With help from here, and the other guy giving you advice in here and others too, I was able to learn that my problem was a simple sensor. Changed that one little piece and the transmission was like butter...

But (for the sake of posterity) there is an on-the-fly calibration that one might refer to as a relearning that directly affects shift behavior (via the governor pressure sensor and solenoid). See "Operation" on page 21-541 of the '01 FSM.

This morning the trans shifted nice and smooth but still no OD, I hit the interstate and as soon as i set the cruise the engine light kicked on, I checked it and work and found i have a code P0783, 3-4 shift control malfunction. I also accelerated hard the other day with it and it reved out to 5500 then i let of the gas to make it shift, im thinking maybe some slight pressure problems also, im going to hold it down today and see where it shifts under WOT. The trans has a new oem valve body with all new seleniods, im hoping for just some crap stuck in there from the cooler. Wish me luck lol
