Truck wont shift passed 2nd gear
Whelp the title sums it up. trans is a 96 46rh auto
Everything was fine and well until last night....was out trail riding and mud bogging and i had been running in D for a few miles of trails and in that time the truck never shifted out of first due to trail speeds.....after we got done bogging and trail riding and came back out onto the road, it wouldnt come out of first....until i peddled the sh*t out of it, same with 2nd, 3rd, lock-up, and overdrive. i had about a 45 mile trip home on the highway and all was well on the highway, came off the highway and same sh*t, now it will shift to second and shift no further. and suggestions or help would be appreciated, thanks guys

96 has 46RE, unless you changed it.......
Check the fluid, see if it's contaminated..... and at the correct level. (nice pic by the way.
)
If fluid is ok, disconect the 8 pin connector on the drivers side of the trans, and take your truck for a drive, you will HAVE to shift manually. Does it shift ok that way?
If the answer to that question is "Yes", then probably just a governor sensor/solenoid problem. If the answer is no...... well, then it is time to start looking at rebuilding it.

Welcome back, shoulda sold it when ya had the chance :P
now correct me if im wrong but i thought that the tv cable made it the RH (hydraulic) bc it shifts it with that cable based upon relative throttle position. bc when that cable was broke i HAD to manually shift it. if it was the RE (electronic) it should shift with the trans electronics inside it correct? maybe i am mistaken then......
lots of ppl say i should sell it but i love the truck to death and have thousands into it. i will only sell it for a good penny, at least 3/4 of what i have into it, or i would trade it for a cummins and there aint many ppl out there that will trade a diesel for a gas jobber even done up like mine.

Nope, the 46RE and 46RH both have the TV cable. The electronic/hydraulic part is just for the OD unit, IIRC. All other shifts are controlled by a combination of things, including PCM and TV cable.
You have a 46RE, 1996 was the first year to have them. 1994-1995 were the only model years of 2nd generation Ram 1500s to have 46RH.
99% of the time, you will get what the vehicles worth based on its model year, mileage, trim, etc. like any other vehicle, and the upgrades/modifications will not be considered (short of transmission rebuild, different engine). Hate to be the one to break it to you, but you'll never get out of it what you put into it.

alright that helps jason, thanks. i am going to try the pulling the 8 pin connector on the trans like brian suggested and see what happens.
as far as selling it goes.....like iv said, i dont wanna sell it, or need to sell it but IF i decided too i would never ever get rid of it for the 2800 bucks the kbb says its worth, i need at least 8500 for it. i have it insured for 10k.

ok so i was just out looking at it........there are 2 electrical connections on the drivers side, one big one thats straight up and down and its just above where the TV cable mounts, and the other it horizontal and its just above the tranny pan but below where the TV cable mounts. which one would it be ?? sorry im not a tranny guy
i know you said you checked the fluid, but the SAME EXACT thing happened to me, except i couldnt get it out of first. and i drove home 12 miles like that....and it was water in the fluid.....after 5 flushes and wasting about $150 worth of atf4, and a new filter, she ran perfect again, and has since, and ive been muddin many times since with no problems.
