Default Quick Tire Size Question

Hey there, I just have a few quick questions on tires for my truck, The stock size on my 97 1500 say 225 70 16's on the inside door but i;ve been runnning 265 75'16s and dont want anything really smaller than that. I was wondering would a 315 75 16 fit under my stock truck? its a sport edition but with no lifts or anything fancy. Also how much worst of gas mileage would i get with a 315 size tire? One more question, How much smaller is a 235 75 16 size tire on a truck if i'm used to my 265's? would i have better gass mileage with a smaller tire? Sorry I know my powersports and sleds but not my vehicles all that well. I need to start gaining more knowledge about my truck. Thanks for the help, anything is useful here!

315's will rub in various places. Probably badly. Your low end torque will suffer. Fuel economy will suffer, and your trans will suffer.

265's are 31.6 inches diameter, 235's are right about 30. With smaller tires, you will have better perceived bottom end, better fuel economy, and your trans won't hate you quite as much. Plus, your speedometer will be closer to accurate.....

can i give a definition here 265/75-16
265 means the width of the tires tread in millimeters
75 means the % of the width is the sidewall height example... 265 times .75 = 198.75
16 means the rims size

ive only had 265/75 16s on my 97 ram 4x4 but i think you might clear it with 285s not sure though if your looking to go bigger

tirerack.com has some good info on there site converting metric sizes to inches

315 75 r 16 is almost a 34.6 tall tire (according to the metric to standard conversion chart) you might have a decent amount of rub with that size tire.

I have 33x12.50r16 on my 99 Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 (stock height) and they rub a little if i cut the wheel hard other than that they are fine. I just lifted the truck after buying them so I want to go bigger on tire. Being that you are also from Michigan i don't know if you interested but i figured id throw it out there but My 33x12.50r16 tires are Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ on the dodge ally rims they have less than 500 miles on them and still have the knubs on them. Id be willing to sell the tires with rims for $1100 or i might move a little bit on price.

How much for just the tires? Rims won't work for me.

How much are you looking to spend? If the price is right ill separate the rims and tires.

Well, id like around $950 for the tires thats already taking a pretty good hit on these tires, i might even consider $900 but for how new they are and very few miles on them thats prolly about as low as i would entertain right right now
