tranny only works in 1st and second!!!!!!!!!

Default tranny only works in 1st and reverse

i have a 1995 dodge ram 4x4 automatic. i bought the truck and i drove it for an hour then all of a sudden it wont budge at the greenlight wont work in any gears. got it towed home and found out it doesnt have no tranny fluid haha. i put some in then all of a sudden it only is 1st gear and reverse. nothing else works. im gonna have to buy a tranny but is there anything i can check or add or anything, or any ideas anybody can think of... please i need help

You can try changing the fluid and filter and adjust the bands.

you might still be low on fluid. check it with engine running, in NEUTRAL (for awhile), not in park. use atf+4 only. once full, let it idle in drive and reverse and recheck.

could be the sensors in the tranny.

Is it leaking maybe? Seems weird you would be able to get it to move at all for that hour before you found out it had no tranny fluid, cause it needs the pressure from the fluid to engage the gears.

it was running good with out hesitation in the gears for that hour then bam nothing works
