Default Converting a 4x2 into 4x4

I have a 2001 Ram 1500 4x2 a buddy of mine has a 2004 Ram 1500 4x4 with a bad cam shaft and doesn't plan on fixing it. One day he was like we should swap front ends and make your truck 4x4.

I happy with the truck only being 4x2 but for ****s and giggles, but it be possible to swap out the front end to convert a 4x2 to 4x4 from a newer model?

Just curious.

Thanks.

It would be easier to fix or replace the motor in the 04.

Possible? Yes. Cost effective? Heck no. It'd be cheaper and easier to just sell the 2WD and put that cash toward a 4WD if you wanted one.

I didn't think it would a weekend swamp. Not really interested in the 04. It's had some big engine issues, he had to rebuild it and the people at NAPA said there wasn't an all in one rebuild kit because the motor was too new, so they had to piece it together, they got all the parts but the cam shaft. Guess what the problem was? The cam shaft.

Anyways, thanks for the replies. I'm gonna keep the 01 4x2. Just gotta stay away from the northern states in the winter!
