Default Tranny question

So Im in the middle of changing the gov sensor and solenoid and possible shift kit. I was dropping the valve body and didnt get to take out the e clip for the parking sprag, the valve body just slid forward and came right out. Not sure if I found an easier way or screwed up. Doesnt look like anything was broken. And on top of the valve body was this little wedge of metal. looks like it might be for the band adjustment? Is this why my trans wasnt shifting?? Any help greatly appreciated.

The little wedge is almost certainly a band anchor, and falling out like that will cause problems.

well i'm hoping that putting the anchor back and adjusting the bands plus the new gov sensor & solenoid will solve my shifting issues. Did the anchor fall out because the bands haven't been adjusted in who knows how long? Ive only had the truck for a few months and dont know its history.

On the bright side the fluid was nice and red and there wasnt much on the magnet.

OK, so the front band is worn down to nothing. I was told that you cant replace the band with the trans in the truck. Does anyone know where to locate a snap band???

Kickdown band? If so, have a look here. Third one down on the list, listed as "slip in". Might wanna call 'em and verify that means what I think it does.

The slip-in bands do what you think they do, but MonteC, IIRC, said that he no longer recommends them. I don't recall him saying why, though. Myself, I'd use 'em just to get a few more miles down the road so the truck's usable while I wait for my shiny new Mega Viper to arrive. Or at least until I could schedule the downtime for the rebuild at my own convenience.

I found some from a local trans shop. Gonna take about a week to get here. The owner of the shop was telling me that they can last a fairly long time, and this is a good well known pro. shop not the shady place down the street
