That's due to air in the system. When the pump speeds up the pressure increases, and air (unlike liquid) is compressible, so the volume of the air decreases and the liquid level falls.

It's when you don't see that happen that you know your system has been properly burped.

What I have to do with my truck is to get the passenger side front way the heck up in the air so the lower part of the radiator filler neck is above the top of the upper radiator hose.

I was about to suggest that. Something like rolling the passenger side front wheel up on an oil change ramp, or something like that. Just want to make the radiator filler the highest point in the cooling system. Sometimes it helps to bounce on the truck a little to get the water to slosh and move around a bit.

well he said that he has a hiss from rad cap.... if the system is flowing in wrong direction then i dont think the cap would serve its purpose and is probably sucking in air.. which he can hear in heater core even after burping system..

so if it is working backwards do you guys think that it would cause all of the symptoms???

so replaced t stat looked like the original based on the gasket so ill check it soon as the rtv dries. decided to check the plenum wile i had the air box off and well......dont think its good. it looked like 1/16 inch of liquid maybe oil maybe coolant or a mix it seemed to clean to be all oil based on how badly it needs it changed so is it possible it could be coolant?
