overheating and radiator under vacuum?

im going to get a new cap tommorow and when i get time do the t stat anywhay would a bad radiator cap cause it to run hot not over heat but run around the 200-230 range on the stock gauge?

Possibly. But, an air pocket would certainly cause that, and the gurgling in the heater core you hear at startup.

so i will get a new cap and burp the system in the morning and report back how long should I burp it for? thanks for your help

Burp it for however long it takes to get all the air out of the system.

I read on here it wasnt good to leave the truck idling for extended periods of time, so how are you supposed to burp the coolant system?

I know I saw it on here but I can't find the post. SomethIng about the pump doesn't run in park? I figured if the motor was running the pump would be too. Just wondering.

Realistically, burping will take somewhere around 30mins tops. I'm not sure where you picked up that idling for extended periods is bad, but that's not true.

That would be the trans pump, not the water pump.
