Default cold air intake.

Ok guys this seems odd to me but my truck seems to run better with the stock intake vs my cold air intake. Why would this be.

Is it just the lowend difference or all the way through the power band, going to a CAI might lose a little low end but gain in passing speeds.....alot of times it may seem like you lose lowend but you just gain that much more in higher rpms

I do need to get some more power outa this thing though. I really only use it to tow our trailer. Its a 8x16 gargo trailer that we haul our quads in and fully loaded the trailer is weighing around 5300 lbs. Last trip we took to Oregon with the cold air intake on we only got 5 mpg. It used to get 8 to 10 depending on wind direction.

Yeah if the exhaust is opened up and your flowing to much air its possible to lose some lowend or like stated you may feel that you lose some but your not, if your using it to tow, I would suggest an SCT tuner and possibly a gear change if it is in the budget

The Volant is far better than K&N or any other fake CAI on the market, the only one coming close to it being the S&B because, like the Volant, it keeps the filter enclosed. The fake CAIs just give you a larger filter, the supposed "heat shields" are pretty much worthless. Instead of a fake CAI, you might as well do the 14x3 (or similar) route.

The Volant, when found at a good price, is the best option.

However, to the original poster: what CAI are you using?
