Cold Air Intakes?
wow, your 14x3 is at the top of engine and hot air. now the CAI is designed with a heat shield box to block heat from engine inside the bay. to pull in from a cooler area. like factory fender well area, is where the spectre kit pulls from. this generally is the coldest air, we will find in the hot engine bay. if you want more colder air you'll have to get a scoop from under bumper, with a tube running to the box. or you can get a scoop from inside fender well(from what i have found while i searched CAI systems). i plan on rigging tube this summer to pull up from below bumper. that 14X3 will be better if you have a ram air hood, which for me now is out of price range. No point in putting off a job you can satisfy today, but will change later. the intake temp is the same via IAT. the thing is you want colder more air in same space as warm air. that plus the extra fuel equals more power, easier to go down the road not as much pedal needed. fuel saving is found, but the sound and power of burying the pedal erases all saving. i have had impovements in every vehicle i have owned with CAI. will stand by them as they produce the ponys for cheap. do even more with other modifications done.

thanks for finding the previous posts on this. I just didn't have the time to search at way past bedtime. that and I am horrible at links. its true that is the cheapest CAI you can buy with a nice heat/splash shield included.
not a problem i knew right where to look cause i posted the before and after pics of the air hat lol

The 14x3 may suck in warm air, but it sucks in a crap load, more air means more fuel more fuel means more power. The CAI uses cold air which is more dense, which equals more air which equals more fuel which equals more power. mow the question is do you want to spend $200 plus on a CAI system or do you want to spend ~$40 for a 14x3 that looks bad *** and in the end will provide you with the nice 2-5hp gain and MPG loss just like the CAI.

so wut ur trying to say is that the 14x3 air cleaner will wrk as good or better that a cai? i mean ive heard that they out perform the cai but idk. the whole point of the cai is to get cold air.. the 14x3wont give u any cold air.... i want to buy either the 14x3 or the spetre cold air.. or maybe eve the s&b.. but first i gotta get a better understanding on are trucks and how they react to the cold air vs the 14x3..
Just to add another consideration to the thread: a 14x3 won't necessarily stop any water that gets into the neighborhood of the filter, while a CAI with a heat shield will generally stop most splashing, and a CAI with a filter sock will almost certainly stop all of it. It takes only one drop of water on a piston to make it game over.

ya true. but the 14x3 sits on top of the motor and is very unlikely to get water.. well in my case it wont.. mine doesnt touch offroad.. but i know wut ur saying..
I was on a paved city street powering up a steep hill in a driving rain when water got past a 14x3 and ate my number one piston... just sayin'.
In a Ram or car?
