Default help neeeeeedeeddddd!!!!

i have a 2001 dodge ram ext cab 4x4, with the 3.92 gear ratio, i live in canada and my rear ends shot, i cannot find another 3.92 to drop in, i am wondering if i can just change it with a 3.55, obviuosly the front diff and the rear id have to change, would that work? also what else would i need to change? And what if i found a dakota or durango with a 3.55 or 3.92 what they work? pm me quickkkkk

Has to have a 9.25 Chrysler Corporate axle.

Hope you have all the tools to change gear ratios if you do that. Labor is quite high otherwise. Changing the rear axle would be easier if you can get the parts.

Will move this to the 2nd gen section to get you more help.

What happened to your rear end? Is it rebuildable? are the gears reusable?

i believe that the housing its self is cooked, the gears are good, it leaked the fluid so i changed the pinion seal and bearing about 2 months ago,now its doing the same thing, and making a crazy loud humming sound, terrible terrible sound, i was qouted 1800 for a rebuilt one

Well if it were me and i was changing gears i would put 4:10's in and either an auburn or detroit tru trac in the rear while its all torn apart. Where in the great white north are you located?

Housing very rarely go bad. You might destroy one doing odd things.... but, that's about it. You loud noise is probably a bearing going bad, and if you didn't replace the crush sleeve, and properly install the front pinion bearing, another one going bad isn't really that much of a surprise. bet you could rebuild what you have for the price of a master install kit. (plus labor, if you can't do it yourself.)

like hey said - housing don't fail unless wrecked. gears last pretty much forever. pinion and carrier bearings can wear out, especially if the fluid leaks out or water leaks in.

master bearing/install kit is about $100-150.
labor to install it should run about $500 max.
you can do it yourself with a few tools and attention to details.

I'm located in London Ontario, so I think I might buy a rear end and front diff and all the axles and drive shaft and do it in my old mans shop, he's a mechanic so we should be able to get er done, I don't tow anything at All so what ratio should I use 410 or 355?? I can get it fairly cheAp off kijiji and free labor, anything I should watchout for

I read on your thing your from Lloyd. thats funny I lived there for a year worked and partied like a champ, amigos and the cooler lol cheerS

3.92 or 4.10s. 3.55s with anything but stock sized (245-ish) tires hurt towing, performance, MPGs, and maybe even transmission.
