Towing Question: ~5,000lbs
Like the title says, I have the 318 with an auto. I tow my boat to the lake at least once a week in the summer (about 10 miles). Now I know the tranny's are the weak point of these trucks. Anybody see an issue with this?
I'm asking because when I looked up the towing capacity (after I bought this truck) it's rated for 4,400lbs. I'm pretty sure I'm over that. I do know it's a class III hitch, so I'm not worried about that part.
Thanks for the input fellas!

Are you sure your truck is only rated for 4,400lbs? My '94 reg cab long bed 4x4 1500 is rated at 7,300lbs and thats from the factory service manual. I tow a fullsize truck on a flatbed (8000lbs or so) behind it every once in awhile and it does just fine (3.55's and 33's).

long beds supposedly can tow more. i however disagree, because my 1500 qc sb has had well over 2k lbs in the bed, and barely squats when a 3700# camper is hooked to it. the 2k lbs and the trailer were not at the same time, however the 2k lbs was all white oak fresh cut.
With my AAL my truck only squats 1-3 inches at most with a fullsize on the trailer (8000lbs as stated earlier) (depends on how far forward the truck is on the trailer).

They can because they are lighter. I don't have all that extra cab just empty box. That does not make up the difference in this case though as the extended cab is not 2900 lbs heavier than the reg cab. My truck with two occupants, tools and stuff weighs about 5500lbs so the truck might weight around 5100lbs with just a driver.
