This post is regarding my friends car :

The problem :



The transfer case housing (case cover ) is broken - Please see attached pictures. I need just this cover ( not all the guts inside )
On the case I can see np231d symbol.

I found cheap Transfer case case cover but the symbol is np241dld.

My question - Can I buy case cover from 231d and fit guts from np241dld ? will it all work ? !

 

A 2500 with a 231 case????? That should be a 241 in there.... wonder if somewhere in the trucks past, that got changed.....

Given that you have a manual trans, behind a diesel..... I would be far more tempted to find a 241DHD and put that in there....... I think it would have to come out of a truck with a manual trans though, think the output shaft length/spline count was different for the autos.....

 

@HeyYou and others - Just to make this clear - IT WAS My Mistake.

The transfer case on a car that my friend owns is 241dld. The car is in garage in Poland.

My friend found a case (just the cover) from 231d in US.
I figured out to buy np231d cover and send it to Poland. then swap guts from 241dld to 231d case that I want to buy.

Sorry for this mistake. I hope that this make sense now.

I want to buy just the cover as the shipping the whole part would cost a ton of cash.

Ah, location wasn't something I had noticed, that does indeed add a whole new dimension to the problem. My guess is, parts aren't quite as plentiful there... as here.

That said, the diesel and manual trans will make pretty short work of a 231 case..... just too much torque.... He would probably end up spending less replacing it with what's supposed to be in there.

So the Transfer case that is in the car my friend owns is 241dld (and I suppose this is a normal thing in 5.9 diesel manual)
The only thing in this 241dld transfer case that is broken is the cover (case box)
My friend in US found 231d transfer case case box. I figured out that he can sent this 231d case box so my friend can take out 241dld guts and put it into 231d.

So the question is can I take out 241dld mechanism and put it into 231 core/case box ? I hope that now I sound a little clearer : )

It appears that the guts from the 241 will indeed fit inside the 231 case, but, I think you would need the WHOLE case, and not just one half of it.

What do you mean by "the whole case" ?
Just to make this clear (because of my English is't perfect we could have few misunderstandings)
The core / housing / case box is what I need (the outer layer / wrapping: ) )
If I buy the whole transfer case the cost of shipping would be milions of dollars.
Dy you think that I can buy just 231 box, send it to poland and then put 241 guts ( mechanism ) into it ?
Sorry once again for asking those questions again and again but I want to be absolutely sure before I buy the part : )
The other thing is. . . I think I will post here so maybe someone will have this part to sell : )

 

Yeah, i think we are on the same page here V8. From what I have read, the 241 parts will go right into the 231 case, without issue. By the WHOLE case, I mean, both halves. I don't think that 231 front section would bolt to the 241 rear section.

But, if you could find a 241 case, that would be better........ (even if it was just the case itself, and no internals.)

 

I believe the 241 has a different bolt up design than the 231. If that was the case everyone would swap in a 241 case.
