I would not go with a high volume oil pump if you do not have a high capacity oil pan. The pump will suck the pan dry and then you'll be regretting it.

I have a high volume pump in mine, and it is not a problem. been running it for a couple months now.

im just saying, thats really a risky move with out having the additional oil capacity, being that the high volume oil pump moves a lot more oil over a stock pump.

It can only stuff it thru the engine so fast..... (which is why you get better pressure as well....) I have never had my oil pressure zero out since I installed it, and I have put some serious miles on it since then.

i installed a manual gauge when i started having the same problems. it will idle around 60 psi cold, go to 70 psi on acceleration, when hot hot will idle around 24 and go to 50 psi driving. everything i have read, I am okay as long as it stays above 15 psi. 210k miles doesnt burn a drop. think i paid 12 dollars at a local discount parts house and installed in 15 minutes. now with the manual gauge i dont have to feel like an idiot looking at idiot lights.

you guys make it sounds so easy to change out the oil pump.. I have nbeen told that I have to lift the motor out of my 97n ram to change the pump just to get the pan off.. Why is that??

i know this post is old, but i wanted to update it with a response.
it was infact just a sensor, apparently it had shaken lose
which would of saved money if i knew before i replaced it.
i decided to leave the new one in, due to the fact.. it was newer :P
but later on the engine developed an oil leak.

i have since sold the truck to a guy as a "farm truck" he says.
since it had the large bed on it.
i now have an 03 ram! sorry to disappoint any 2nd gens.
