Exclamation Help with my trans!

Okay guys. Yes i know i have posted before about my trans, but i have not done anything with it yet.

Today my 00' Ram 1500 (46RE trans)got towed down here by my pop. It has no auto tranny fluid in it now! all i know is that it wont shift out of first (or it could be 2nd). im very low on cash so i cant just waste autotranny fluid so i was woundering should i just drop the already drained pan and take out the governor solenoidand clean it, then put the auto trans fluid in it. while im down there ill prob get a new filter just to be sure. (anything else i should check?) and ill prob end up doing a check valve delete.
There wouldnt be no harm from just cleaning the solenoid would there? Only if i couldn't get it back together... that would be a bummer.

Any ideas ,comment , or anything would be greatly helpful.

Thanks,
~Tyler

What was it doing before, when it actually had fluid in it, and where did the fluid go??

My pop told me it wouldn't shift out of first gear. He informed me yesterday that he took it to a tranny shop to look at it... but he never told me what they did. he told me that the dropped the pan and that they never torqued them down. He told me the trans needed to be rebuild. but i really hope not. how much would a trans cost to get rebuild?

Anywhere from 1K, to 3K for a rebuild, depending on if you go stock, or wild.....

Yer gonna have to spend some money to figger out what's wrong though. Dropping the pan, cleaning, or replacing the governor pressure solenoid, and having a look at the sensor, wouldn't be a bad idea. You could even adjust the bands while you are in there.

You could dump some fluid into the trans, make sure the level is correct, unplug the 8 pin connector on the drivers side, and see if the trans will shift manually. If it will, then gov pres. sensor, and solenoid should solve your issues.

So your saying before i drop the pan i should fill it up with fluid and try the 8pin disconnect and try to manually shift it? now if it does work could i be able to just manually shift it until i get enough cash to replace the sensor and solenoid?

Basically, that's it. I don't think I would want to drive it that way on a regular basis though...... by disconnecting the plug there, you are basically disabling any governor function at all, so, line pressure will be maxed out all the time. Not sure if you would get O/D, or TCC function either......

Nope, won't hurt a thing. Check all the wiring while you are in there, rumor has it that some of the wires like to rub against stuff, and then short out.......

When say it was towed you do mean on a trailer right? These trucks do not like being towed with the back wheels on the ground.
