Red line first gear
Hey guys, longtime reader and first time poster.
I have a 99 5.2 auto with 104k on it now.
I changed my serpentine belt and changed oil and stuff. Now if I romp on the gas, it will redline first gear, I let off gas a little and it shifts. Also if I drive old man style, it shifts fine too. Od on or off makes no diff.
Any ideas?
Thanks, chad.

Governor Pressure Sensor. Known issue for these trucks. They tend to get saturated at WOT, and do exactly what you describe. Replacing it with another factory unit may or may not fix it..... there was a thread not so long ago that had a link to a replacement unit, that would drop right in, and was better than stock. Another alternative, is to go the GM style sensor, and pressure solenoid.... but, that's a bit more expensive.

I read a bunch, and was thinking that was it, but what I read said it happened 2nd to 3rd.
Easy change too from my understanding. Just a couple screws after u remove tranny filter right?

could try backin off the transmission pressure cable a hair or two. will make it shift a little sooner or later depending on what way you adjust it. for you, you would want to bring it in(towards the front of the truck) if i do remember right.
That the tv cable I read about?
I got this truck from my dad, he got in new, none of this type of stuff has been done. Just fluid changes and grease.
Is it bad to keep driving it like that, if I drive it nice? Going to oregon from utah and back next month and would rather wait to change the sensor. If itll cause harm, ill do it before.

Nice. So u guys think its the sensor or the selenoid?
And how about keeping driving for a bit, gonna hurt anything?
