Crank position sensor or cam position sensor.

Cam sensor is also referred to as a pickup sensor.

Try the cam sensor first. Much easier to get to than the crank sensor, and cheaper too.

The cam sensor, is that the sensor that is right there by the distributer? And the crank sensor would be behind that on the back of the motor right?

The Cam Sensor is inside the distributor.

Also... Getting a crank position sensor, should we go with the factory dodge replacement or one they have at advanced with a lifetime warranty?

Sounds like someone needs to visit the 2nd Gen FAQs atop this forum.

2nd Generation Ram Parts Manuals

Also, download a copy of the Field Service Manual.

Some have reported issues with aftermarket sensors. Going with the sensor from the dealer is more expensive, but, they work........ no questions asked.

That's a good question. I'm certain someone will come along and define their differences. The FSM will still be of value and will show the appropriate location of all sensors.
