If you want it to pop and crackle you need small diameter pipes with small tips. Straights would be the loud if thats what ya want

Disconnect the y-pipe then weld on another set of pipes in its place and run them through the front fenders.

Gut the cat and install a single-chamber performance muffler. Cherry bombs are pretty loud.

Cut some holes in your hood and run some pipe straight off the manifolds up out the hood of the truck... derby style. But make sure your keep a couple 5-gallon buckets in the bed of the truck to cover the outlets in case it rains.

Seriously, in my opinion, a loud exhaust (one that crackles) sounds bad on a truck with a slushbox transmission.

When I hear similar setups with other trucks with slushboxes (lots of Dodges are like this around me), I sometimes feel embarrassed for the driver that they have to try that hard...

I would keep a lower somewhat tame rumble. Leave the crackling for the guys who literally need to 'scream' to get noticed.

If you want it really loud, take the exhaust manifolds off and run a straight pipe for each cylinder.

That is the best way to get it really loud without being so loud that it'll aggravate you. There are a handful of different mufflers that will make it sound good if you run them without a cat. Flowmaster super 40 mufflers sound good when you run them without a cat too.
