Okay people, here's one for ya. I looked at the DIY for the output shaft seals, but mine is leaking from a different spot... right where the housing is bolted together.
What's the prognosis? Tear it out and tear it down?
You can actually use ATF+4 in the transfer case. Actually I recommend that, because if the seal between the t case and transmission were ever to fail, you don't pollute the transmission with gear oil.
Does anyone know where i can get a t case saver for mine? I also need to replace the seals it looks like mine are leaking a bit after the yoak got shoved all the way up into the t-case when i dropped the shaft.
How did it get pushed up in there? Did you use your driveshaft in an attempt to pole vault with your truck? If you just stuffed it in there by hand, you didn't do any damage. If the weight of the truck was stuffing it in there..... that may be a problem.
In a normal case, the only thing that I can think of that would shove the driveshaft in there far enough and hard enough is if the rear U joint broke and the shaft slammed in the ground was shoved into the transfer case. Of course for this to happen, you would have to be moving in reverse relatively quickly when the shaft broke.
