i keep throwing a P1899 with no real symptoms. help?
98 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport throwing P1899 Park/Neutral Switch.
Not sure what causes this one or what some symptoms of it are. I know I have a reverse light out, but beyond that, it runs fine. Also not getting a CEL.

i dont know - i've never tried it. it starts in park, which is how i generally start it.
i'll try that later though. how difficult is the switch installation? aside from starting in drive or reverse, will this switch being faulty cause any other issues?
i currently dont have cruise, and i cant get the overdrive dash light to go on, so im guessing either this code has something to do with that, or i have a vac leak somewhere.

P1899 P/N Switch Stuck in Park or in Gear . Not a big deal, except you don't want to start it in drive or reverse by accident.
And yes the cruise is usually a vacuum issue. There is a tube that runs under the battery tray to the module/servo. Check it.

Check at the plug itself. The middle pin should be grounded when the shift lever is in park, or neutral, and open when in any other gear. Looks like the other two pins are for reverse lites.
