Question Power Steering Fluid

2 questions:

I am changing my steering gear and am going to drain the system. The manual des not tell me the capacity, therefore how much fluid do i need for this job.

I have some unopened quarts of Royal Purple ATF will this work in lieu of power steering fluid?

Use power steering fluid.

Probably less than a quart required, getting all the air out of the system is the tricky part.

Jack up the front of the truck, and fill the p/s reservoir up. Start the truck, and crank the wheel back and forth, lock to lock, a couple times, top off the fluid. If the fluid is frothy, shut off the truck, and let is settle. (takes anywhere from half an hour, to an hour) Keep doing that until the system is full, and it isn't making any odd noises anymore.
