Default New Transmission

I have A 1995 dodge Ram 1500 5.2L V8 and the transmission is shaking at 45-60. I am being told to replace the transmission, what years can I swap into my truck or what would be the best, but cheapest way to go?

94 and 95 only. However, how do you know it's the tranny?

Do a full tuneup first. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, PCV valve. (get the valve from the dealer, the rest of the stuff, where ever you prefer.)

I would give odds that the problem will go away.

Yea I've already done all that and more. The only things I need to do now are a new muffler and everyone is telling me to replace the plenum gasket, but those wouldn't affect the transmission would they?

out of balance tires are notorious for giving a vibe in a certain speed range.. could be a broken belt on one of the tires.. could be a failing universal joint.. could be an out of balance drive shaft.. could be bad shock(s).. could be a lot of things..

and, fwiw, I've only once been to a tranny shop where the diagnosis WASN'T: "well, son, you need a rebuild".. I think it's part of the certification of becoming a tranny tech..

If the plenum is bad enough, it can induce a miss, and the whole truck will start shaking around 45 mph when tcc locks, and O/D engages.

The plenum gasket seems like a big enough job by itself, I don't think I could do that on my own, any idea what that would cost at a shop?

So the transmission works? Just a vibration at 45-60? I wouldnt condemn the transmission unless it is having shifting problems. I havent seen a transmission cause vibrations unless it was messed up bad internally and not working properly.

btw 5-6 years is getting old for tires.

Yea it works just fine now, i had a little trouble shifting after 40 mph but I put some lucas fix in and it fixed it.

The tires are old but the tread is still very good.
