Following the FSM recommendation for filling with fluid adding 6 quarts and fired it up and it wont move...Guess I'm off to the parts store before they close on a Sunday. I'm hoping it's just fluid related. Man this thing was smoking like a **** from the manifold to y pipe connections...I bet letting it sit for 3 months cracked the crap outta my valve seals.

Manual stated 19 to 20 (i thought quarts) pints. That's would be 9.5 quarts so 6 would probably nearly fill TC. Wal Mart carries ATF +4, but they were out at the store here at 10:00pm.

Hope it works!

Went and got 4 more quarts. I've poured about 3 of them in which makes 9 and it still wont move. I get a fast ticking (like when you put an automatic in park before its completely done rolling) when I put it back into park though. Shifts through everything on the column normally and once you shift from park the engine idles down like normal...just no movement yet...im way nervous. Fluid level checks about halfway between min and max in neutral idling.

I question those numbers..... a GM 4L60 would take 12 quarts to fill....... What is your dipstick telling you??

Now that I've got it settled I'm also trying to mitigate overheating issues. Forgot when I pulled those freeze plugs I drained the block and I didn't have enough antifreeze to fill the rad and the block...lol. But now that all the tranny fluid has ran down, circulated, and drained from the dipstick tube, I'm getting a more accurate reading. A little past minimum, needs more. I would still think the truck would move with "minimum fluid". It's cooling off while I run back to O'Reilly's to get another gallon of glycol.

It should move even if it's low. I've been 2 quarts low and still driven around. I think you've got a problem, dude.

I wouldn't sweat the smoke. Every time I work on my truck, my oily gloves and hands leave residue on the headers and exhaust pipes and it smokes off.

Resurrection. Tastes damn fine. Rolls and shifts like a champ. Still have a couple things I need to address. I cut my exhaust behind my cat so I'll need to fix that. The skid plate, and 1 front driveshaft bolt I just couldn't get to where it was parked. Other than that, the only problem I've seen was I can't seem to get 4hi. Hoping thats just a linkage adjustment though. 4lo, neutral and 2h work great though. An BTW, The reason my truck wouldn't move is because the transfer case wasn't within a selectable range, therefore not engaging. I'm out to clean up. Thanks for everything gents...

Getting so close is good, but will "taste" even better when all is done! Good job!

Drove it 50 miles to work this morning. Everything is working nicely. Kickdowns, shifts, O/D. I am however leaking a little fluid from the output shaft of the transfer case. Thinking maybe I filled it a smidge too full since I filled it out of the truck before I installed it. Also one of my cooler line connections is slightly leaking at the tranny. Shoulda used teflon I suppose. There was some very dark black sludge on the bottom of the bell housing that wasn't tranny fluid that kinda disturbs me as well. It's always something.
