Default 98 Ram 1500 power window problem.

The other day I put my drivers side window down and it no longer will go up.. I put a meter on the wires connecting to the motor and it is getting power but the window wont go up or down... Im assuming that the motor went bad?

I looked up prices on a new motor and its relatively cheap.. $25.00 give or take a few dollars.

My question is do i need to replace just the motor...Or can I replace just the motor.... OR do i need to buy the regulator as well.. (Costs around $50.00 - 60.00)

And If I can just replace the motor is it a pain to do?

Thanks a lot!

If you do figure it out and are going to fix it. My drivers side window is going up slower then my drivers so I assume that motor is going out.

You can replace just the motor, and some of them are more of a pain than others..... Regulators tend to be riveted into the door, so, first, ya gotta drill those out..... then, the motors are usually riveted to the regulator as well, so, you get to drill THOSE out.... new motor is held on with nuts/bolts. I generally just bolt the regulator back into place as well.

Ahh okay I see, well in that case maybe mine had already been replaced because I just removed the motor with 3 bolts. I didn't look to see if the regulator was bolted or riveted though.. I suppose I will buy a new motor and see how that goes.

Thanks

That sure makes it easier. They are a rather common failure part. The 25 dollar motor won't last more than five years though.... if that....

One last question haha. Are the window motors univeral..? Meaning do they work on either side of the truck?.. Where im buying the motor from it says front right.. which I would assume is the pass. side?.. but I need the drivers side.. I feel as if they work either way though.. I may be wrong.

Not sure on the dodges, but, GM motors were side specific. If it specifies a side, I would make sure you got the correct one then.... (drivers is left, pass. is right.)
